The surgery is open from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm, Monday to Friday apart from Wednesday when we close Dickens Heath at 1 pm. Doctors’ and Nurses’ surgery hours vary, but are mostly between 8.30 am and 11.30 am and 3 pm and 6 pm. On Wednesday afternoon a full service is available to Dickens Heath patients at our Northbrook site, including advance bookings if a Wednesday afternoon is important. We monitor the availability of appointments, and try to alter surgeries to suit demand.
The doctors are available for consultations between 8.30 am and 12.00 pm, and 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday. There are also lunchtime surgeries on some days. Not all the doctors work for the whole of the times specified, and some doctors are part-time.
We will try to add extra appointments or surgery sessions at busy times.
Every weekday morning, one of the permanent doctors is on duty for all the problems which arise on the day. The doctor will deal with requests for appointments, visits or telephone queries until 12 pm. However it is much easier for us if the calls come in before 10.00am - so please try to get in touch before then. We guarantee that if you ring in the morning, the doctor will find a way to deal with your problem - whether by offering an appointment with the Duty Doctor that day or the next, or with a specific doctor when available, or by arranging prescription collection or delivery, or organising a home visit. Hence there is no need for a desperate rush to get on the 'phone at 8 am!
Out of Hours Care
The practice belongs to a group of local family doctors who provide an emergency service in the evenings and at weekends. The service operates each Monday to Friday from 6.30 pm to 8.00 am and at weekends. This service is strictly for urgent medical problems which cannot wait until the surgery is open again. Between 6.30 pm and midnight the doctors on call are all GPs who work in Solihull or Birmingham. After midnight the service is manned by a professional locum company called Badger.
If you require this service ring the surgery in the normal way and the out-of-hours telephone number will be given to you via the ansaphone. You may be asked to travel to the Walk in Centre which is located within Solihull Hospital, if that seems appropriate. NHS Direct is available on 111 for 24 hour service.
(The out-of hours telephone number is 0300 555 0303 on occasional training afternoons. A message will be on our answerphone but this is if you don't catch the number when you ring.)
